Some say it as a traditional holiday where parties come together to express their love by giving confectionary goods, flowers, exchanging card/gifts. Some call it just any other boring day followed by the 365 year-calendar. I remember those elementary days where I would exchange corny Valentine cards with students and getting those disgusting candy heart boxes for an unlimited amount of desserts... Yuck! Receiving and reading cards were my favorite outcome from this holiday. Plus, if you didn't like that one particular person, just don't deliver them a card haha - that was what the selfish child "me" did. ^_^
Whichever it may be, hopefully you lovebirds had something productive to do on this day and you may want to ask what I did too. This was the second date I went on on a holiday, but first time it will be with my boyfriend and hopefully with many dates to come in the future. There were endless options we could've went, but being on a restricted schedule and having a curfew, we experienced traffic difficulties along our little adventure. Our initial plan was to drive and chill at San Francisco since it isn't too far from where we reside, but being the impatient gal, I couldn't afford to waste gas to spend our limited moments at San Francisco where we could just have a mini getaway in our city. Plus, I'm sure that everyone from the suburbs wanted to go to SF anyways and I bet it would be hours until we would get there since traffic was nearly everywhere by road.
On the latter, we settled for a sushi restaurant and I'm thinking, "No biggie. I love sushi more than I could even consume a horse if I must." We both love sushi, so that was spark-worthy between us lovebugs. I just love sushi that much! Hehe. Prior to heading to the sushi restaurant, I had bittersweet thoughts racing around my head while realizing this was where my previous date took me for Valentine's Day. I tried to shook it off and not let it get to my head because I'm supposed to be a happy gal that I'm actually going on a real date with my boyfriend.
Being the forgetful person I was, I didn't bring enough money. Shit! This rings up that I couldn't treat myself to several rolls like how I would since they were sooooooooo yummy. Even my boyfriend didn't bring enough money to cover his meal. Could I get an awkward applause here? Anyway, we both settled for bento boxes instead....hehe. I mean you can never go wrong with them - especially if this is your first time trying out sushi or going to a Japanese restaurant. You want my recommendation, there you go - a bento box! I highly suggest this for beginners too. :) I also ordered a side of sake maki since I was feeling a little naughty ;) teehee. Surprisingly, the bento box had me filled up within a matter of 15 minutes between consumption and expressive conversations. He even had me laughing that our waitress had some puppy-like affection for his brother because they would always go here whenever the two craved sushi, and she would be making weird eye contact with him while attempting to semi-flirt with him. Is that even a word? Haha.
We both wanted dessert, but as two broke ass college students, we must resort ourselves to our different location since no dessert was offered at this location. This restaurant used to have dessert - what could have happened???! Had someone decided to start a petition in order to have a significant amount of signatures to depose every dessert item off the menu?! Disappointed I was, I know I am not entirely bloated, but I'm craving dessert. Something me and my boyfriend could share together since it was a treat to us. My boyfriend suggested shaved snow, and I dumbfounded myself for how I did not think of this after the mini rage I had how they were no longer serving desserts. Okay.. I wasn't really raging, though I just predicted every restaurant should have at least a dessert item in their menu option.
The shaved snow was really light and airy. *_____* Green tea flavored snow smothered with condensed milk, along with mango and strawberry mochi on the side. It is sooooo good! We both shared and devoured in seconds since shaved snow was one of our favorite treats.
Despite how our date went today, I look forward to the next date with him - and many more fun journeys as we can! Our plans may have been wrecked due to the amount of travelers going out on a busy day since it was a holiday on a Saturday, we work to prioritize to compromise other long shots we had. We both did not bring enough money to have a decent meal together, but no worries since not all dates are picture-perfect to begin with. I had my fair share of awkward dates in the past, and sometimes it is good to get a laugh at it because we are silly human beings that worry about mistakes that have no meaning to them.
I hope each and every one of you shared a moment on this special day, or if you are single, your productive lazy date with food. :) Whether you are taken or single, treat Valentine's Day with affection and spend that day however you like it. Go on a wild adventure to a Valentine edition amusement park or buy $100 worth of chocolate to eating your desires out. :D
